The
Origin of Stag Hollow |
|
Thank you for your interest in
Stag Hollow. In an attempt to get back to the earth, I borrowed two goats in
1981 to see how I liked them and then started my herd in 1982 with two
Nubians and one Alpine. For years I kept the numbers very small
concentrating on improving what I had and then began to show. I no longer
raise Alpines and do a minimal amount of gardening. I retired from showing
at the end of the ’04 show season. At my last show, my doe went grand and
then BOB against a challenger. It was a wonderful way to exit from showing.
Much of my stock has been sold. I still have four Nubian does and a
Nubian/Boer cross. Two of my does I milked through and I will try to breed
them in May. The other two were bred to a Boer and are also due in May. The
resulting kids are not registered and usually go for meat. If someone
happens to want one of those crossbreeds with papers then there is an extra
charge. In looking through the sales list, the first number before the name
of the animal is the birth-date. The herd had been on milk test for eleven
years but I decided to go off after the '96 lactations. 2003 was the last
year I had them appraised.
