The Origin of Stag Hollow
images/spacer30.gif (814 bytes)

Thank you for your interest in Stag Hollow. In an attempt to get back to the earth, I borrowed two goats in 1981 to see how I liked them and then started my herd in 1982 with two Nubians and one Alpine. For years I kept the numbers very small concentrating on improving what I had and then began to show. I no longer raise Alpines and do a minimal amount of gardening. I retired from showing at the end of the ’04 show season. At my last show, my doe went grand and then BOB against a challenger. It was a wonderful way to exit from showing. Much of my stock has been sold. I still have four Nubian does and a Nubian/Boer cross. Two of my does I milked through and I will try to breed them in May. The other two were bred to a Boer and are also due in May. The resulting kids are not registered and usually go for meat. If someone happens to want one of those crossbreeds with papers then there is an extra charge. In looking through the sales list, the first number before the name of the animal is the birth-date. The herd had been on milk test for eleven years but I decided to go off after the '96 lactations. 2003 was the last year I had them appraised.
My animals are fed a 16% grain ration that is formulated for a group of breeders in this area. I supplement the grain with sunflower seeds and kelp. They are fed alfalfa year round but less during their dry period when I feed grass hay cut from our own fields. Minerals and salt are fed free choice. Everyone has tested CAEV negative for many years. Most of the kids used to be given colostrum from their dams and pasteurized milk via lambar. In ’03 due to my health precautions, all kids now nurse. I separate the kids and dams at night so I can milk by machine in the AM’s. Most of my meat kids have nursed in the past and they can be as friendly as lambar babies. As soon as the babies are eating grain, I used to mix cocciguard into their ration. I now use Di-methox 40% following the guidelines in the Hoegger catalogue.

Ordering.
Orders are taken on a first deposit ($25.00) first filled order basis. If you order before breeding season I will breed the doe of your choice to my Nubian buck or a buck in my tank. Price listed includes transportation to Portland International Airport. The buyer is responsible for health certificate, kennel and shipping costs. Deposits are not refundable on cancelled orders, but if your choice(s) is/are not available your deposit may be transferred or refunded. I would like the final payment on notification of birth and the kid to be shipped out around three to five weeks of age. Fertility of any kid sold is guaranteed providing they receive proper care. A veterinarian must document infertility, suspected cause, and general health.

Thank you again for your interest in Stag Hollow. Please feel free to call or write for more information.
