Columbia-Willamette Quilt Study Group Annual RetreatEach February, I plan and host a three-day retreat for quiltmakers, historians, and quilt enthusiasts in Oregon. This annual event is now in its seventeenth year. It evolved out of the regular monthly meetings of a group I created in 1982 to study and promote quilts and quilt history. Over the years, the CWQSG has sponsored exhibitions, field trips, studio tours, lectures, documentation projects, and social and cultural associations. The group has been listed in national and regional directories of quilt organizations. Participation has been by choice with some members presenting research papers while others have hosted meetings. As personal lives evolve, the members of the group now meet annually to hear a scholar in residence, work on their projects, and share with one another. Past scholars have included a university professor, a dance company artistic director, several independent quilt scholars, and a local quiltmaker. The group has made blocks for the Dougy Center for Grieving Children’s annual quilt and contributed to the Latimer Quilt and Textile Center.
